HULK Provides a Solution for an Unconventional Wellbore
An Oil & Gas operator who specializes in the development of unconventional wellbores recently contacted HULK about a unique problem. This company has been operating in the Williston Basin since 2012, and in that time have drilled hundreds of wells. They currently operate more than 330 wells in the Bakken.
The Problem
The operator approached HULK when they needed a solution to a unique wellbore situation. Bad spots in the casing caused collapsing issues and they were having trouble getting landed. The production engineers decided that the solution to these issues was to feature a typical 7-inch casing that then switched to a 5 ½-inch casing for the last 1500 feet of the wellbore.
Ground outs and short runs were plaguing the operation due to cable damage occurring in the tighter casing application. They tried using banding and “other” clamps, but nothing was working to get the well online.
They needed a cable protection solution that could satisfy the needs of both the 7-inch and tighter 5 ½-inch casing applications.
The HULK Solution
A production engineer on the operator’s rig called HULK because they knew we would be able to deliver an ESP cable protection solution to their rigging issues caused by the unique wellbore casing application.
HULK has designed Slimcast Cross Collar Clamps and Slimline MLEs to meet the requirements of tighter casing applications. Our products are American-made, and we keep an inventory in the Bakken to suit the needs of operators requiring fast resolutions to rigging issues.
HULK’s solution was to use 5.0s to fit their unique specifications and then use regular HULK 1.0s for the rest of the wellbore.
The Results
The HULK team installed our cable protection clamps on the equipment string the very next day. Our install process is designed to reduce rig time and get you landed faster.
The combination of Slimline MLEs and Slimcast CCCP secured the ESP cable and capillary, and allowed the operator to get the wellbore landed and running.
